Since 1776, the Main Ridge Forest Reserve has been a Crown Reserve making it the oldest legally protected forest reserve in the Western Hemisphere. Aquifer systems in Tobago expand across the Main Ridge and are often referred to as a megawatershed. The transference of rainfall through these aquifer systems is of vital importance to the domestic water supply of Tobago. About 20 to 25% of Tobago's water supply is obtained from aquifers which are recharged by the Main Ridge. Download our printable PDF version below to learn more.
